Episode 44: Language Acquisition

This week’s Charlotte Mason podcast focuses on language. Mason’s method was based on a child’s nature, and this is most apparent in observing how her method runs along the line of a child’s natural acquisition of language skills.

Listen Now:

“Many persons consider that to learn to read a language so full of anomalies and difficulties as our own is a task which should not be imposed too soon on the childish mind. But, as a matter of fact, few of us can recollect how or when we learned to read: for all we know it came by nature.” (Vol. 1, p. 200)

I like to listen through my podcast app on my phone(apple), but this weeks podcast is so quiet I could barely hear it, and just wanted to let you know ๐Ÿ™‚ I can hear it clearly listening here at the website, and Im so glad ๐Ÿ™‚

I thought the sound was much better, with Nicole's mic being equal to Liz's. Vast improvement, thank you for the investment.

The university where I work is involved in research which is finding that our private thinking is fully dependent on language. Specifically, that a body cannot count to more than three without words for the concept. Logic and justice are impaired without the strength and Gift of language.

So keep pouring all that chatter and books into your babies, Mamas! You are a part of the Giver's Gift.

Thank you, Ami. I'm not sure we have the sound worked out completely, but thanks for hanging in there with us.

The research you mentioned is fascinating! Thank you for sharing.

I'm not sure if it's just me, but for some reason this episode doesn't have any sound at all. Maybe something happened to it? I tried on iTunes and there is no sound on that one either.

    Thanks
