Scheduling Cards are Revised

Friends,

As you know, we designed our scheduling cards to be a functional tool for developing that wondrous weekly timetable that Miss Mason used to guide the school morning. The short and varied lessons and combining multiple forms are the big challenge in a smooth and successful school morning. The scheduling cards have helped simplify that daunting task.

If you have listened to our podcast a little, you know we talk a lot about continuing to learn. As we find new sources of information and keep up research we gain knowledge that sheds new light on the implementation of the Charlotte Mason method. Since we originally produced the cards, we have been able to study a few more time-tables (for a total of 3-4 per Form) and further information on certain subjects Miss Mason included in the feast. As a consequence, we have returned to the scheduling cards to adjust some proportions of subjects and their corresponding frequency. The result is a few adjustments across all forms. We actually think the new changes, though not tremendous, will help make your school lessons run more smoothly. While we were tackling the new breakdowns, we altered the size of the cards to make them more manageable to arrange and rearrange in the process of building your timetable for the year.

If you have purchased cards in the past, logging into your Purchase History will allow you to download the new cards without charge. (Keep in mind that the cards were originally sold on Sabbath Mood Homeschool, so you may have purchased them there.) If you purchased them at a conference, or we included them with your consultation, simply write to tell us where you obtained them and attach a picture of which forms you have and we will provide the corresponding revised sets.

Though the first sets we developed have been valuable, we sincerely hope the few changes in each form will make this sometimes tedious chore even more manageable for you, and that you will find the improvements to make a difference in your schedules.

As always, we sincerely appreciate all of your support, encouragement, and willingness to grow in your understanding.

Emily, Liz, and Nicole

We love to research and we love to share our findings with other moms who do not have the time or know where to begin. Thanks for your feedback.

Hi Ladies, I have purchased Form 4 (through ADE) and Form 1 (through Sabbath Mood Homeschool). After printing both documents off I don’t see any changes on the Form 1 document and cards. Do I need to email you for the updated cards if I bought them through SMH?

When I printed them off today they seem very pixelated. The small print on the cards is especially hard to read. Is that happening for anyone else? Thank you so much for all the hard work!

Hmm, we haven’t had that issue Anna. I wonder if it might be a printer setting? Are they printing “Actual Size” or something else? Maybe set to “Draft” quality? If the cards are still too small for you, you can adjust the scale before printing and print them between 100-200 % to get an enlarged set.

Hi Ladies! Thank you for the updated cards! This is my first year going into form 3…I see for Bible lessons it is 4x a week, alternating between OT and NT. Can the 5th day be used for the 1x week CC James Gospel History/Charlotte Mason Saviour of the World lesson? Or should that be placed somewhere else?

    1. Admin Post author

CM only ever had 4 Bible lessons per week, and really, as we have worked through the programmes, that time allotment is ample for the amount of work she assigned. The Saviour of the World (and corresponding Gospel History) were always listed under the New Testament portion of the curriculum and should be done in those lessons. The corresponding NT Scripture readings, you will notice, is significantly less than in earlier forms–check out the Bible 2.0 episode notes page for a breakdown of those passages by term if you’d like.

Thanks so much for your hard work! I did notice one discrepancy between the cards and info page for form 1: the info page says drawing 1x/week for 20 minutes, but the cards only have it for 10 minutes. Which is correct?

    1. Admin Post author

Thank you! I also heard that I wrote Poetry 5X per *day* rather than 5X per week! The cards are correct for drawing. I’ll adjust the info sheet!

Thank you so much for these updates. Over the years, I have admired your ongoing willingness to adapt practices to align with newly unearthed information, and this is yet another example. I printed them off in time to tweak our schedules for this next year. The changes do indeed create a better flow on paper that I can’t wait to put into action this Fall. Thanks again!

LaShawne, we are so glad to hear this and do hope it is an improvement for you and the rest. Anything that will help balance the school week we are willing to do as it is a lot to balance!

i printed off the old cards and set our schedule the day before you guys published the new ones- i decided to go ahead and try the update, even though that meant redoing most of the work i did earlier, and i’m so glad i did, it was very worth it! you’ve hit everything on my wishlist! thank you so much, this will be a huge blessing this year!

      Amber,

This is such a relief to hear. Thank you for the encouragement and I
do hope it is worth it.

Graciousness abounds within A Delectable Education, that’s why I keep referring people to your podcast.

I really appreciate the updates. I only recently purchased the form 1 scheduling cards and was having having a hard time working with the larger sized cards, the adjusted size is much appreciated. We haven’t started our formal schooling yet and I already feel like the changes made will make for a smoother school schedule. I was wondering if these changes will be reflected on the curriculum templates as well?

  9. Admin Post author

Yes, Jaime, that is our plan! However, the content won’t change just the times we list will be updated to match the schedule cards, so the templates can still be used in the meantime, you’ll just have to go by the time on the cards rather than the templates.

When can we expect to see the templates updated? I have used those for my planning instead of the cards. They made an abrupt mid-year switch to CM possible, and I am so thankful for all the research they saved me!

    1. Emily Kiser

I’m so glad the templates were helpful for you! I’m so sorry I can’t give a date on the update for the templates.

  11. Anna Tonn

Thank you so much for all you do! I got my scheduling cards as part of a consult when we started the form last year, so how would I access the update?

  12. Katie Anderson

Thank you for the updates. This is probably a dumb question, but I am not used to seeing Play 10min 5x/week for Form II cards before. Is this just intended for a play break?

  13. Emily Kiser

We had a play card in Form 2 previously, but we did reduce the time to just 10 minutes. It is just a break for independent play.

  14. Megan

Wouldn’t this also affect the curriculum templates? I ordered the full set of them but not the schedule cards.

  15. Tabitha Wirges

Thanks for updating these! Thank you for sharing all your research and continuing to guide all of us CM educators in the midst of your own life and journeys.
